She is one of the world’s best-known and loved actresses. She built her career on a series of film performances that go against classic stereotypes, creating in each a new character that moves with ease from drama to passionate romance and eccentric individualism. Her critically acclaimed roles include her portrayal of "Marie Sheehan" in the series Mare of Easttown that she exclusively produced in 2021 and with which she received a primetime Emmy Award. In December 2022, she starred as "Ronal" in James Cameron’s blockbuster movie sequel Avatar: The Way of Water as part of the all-star cast alongside Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington. In the same year, she is also part of the beautifully poignant anthology series I AM RUTH from BAFTA winning filmmaker Dominic Savage. Her projects in 2023 include The Palace and Trust that she executively produced and starred in.
She made her film debut at the age of 17 in the motion picture Heavenly Creatures by Peter Jackson, and immediately made an impression. Her first Oscar nomination was for Ang Lee’s Sense and Sensibility, but it was her interpretation of "Rose" in Titanic that revealed her to the international public and resulted in her second Oscar nomination. She was then nominated for her roles in Iris, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Little Children, and achieved recognition by winning the Oscar for Best Actress for her performance as an ex-Nazi in The Reader in 2009. Her other achievements back then included memorable and award-winning movies, among them Revolutionary Road directed by Sam Mendes and in which she again plays alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, Finding Neverland and Romance & Cigarettes.
In 2010, Kate played the leading role in the HBO dramatic mini-series Mildred Pierce, in which she reinterpreted, over five hours, the role once played by Joan Crawford in the film of the same name. This performance won her three awards as Best Actress in a mini-series or television film: An Emmy Award in 2011, and a Screen Actors Guild Award and Golden Globe in 2012. To complete this long list of achievements, Kate was also awarded an Honorary César in 2012. In addition, she won the 2016 Golden Globe and BAFTA Award (British Academy of Film Awards) for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for the Danny Boyle motion picture Steve Jobs. This role also earned her a seventh Oscar nomination.
As an established actress, she also found the opportunity to help those in need; in 2010, the actress became involved for a good cause by creating the Golden Hat Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to raising funds for children with autism.
In 2013, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II awarded the Oscar-winning actress with the title of Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. In March 2014, Kate received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
In June 2017, Kate Winslet presented the exclusive and very limited new timepiece she had chosen during her visit at the brand’s headquarters: The Flagship Heritage by Kate Winslet. Five gold pieces were produced and named after the brand ambassador. The models numbered 2/5, 3/5 and 4/5 were auctioned for the benefit of the Golden Hat Foundation. The first remaining timepiece belongs to Kate Winslet while the second is kept in the Longines museum.
In 2022, she graced the Longines DolceVita X YVY launch with her presence, perfectly embodying the elegance of the famous rectangular timepieces. With sophisticated leather straps, Swiss designer Yvonne Reichmuth has given the refined rectangular timepieces a new identity. Referencing the equestrian world so dear to Longines, their design is evocative to bridles and harness.
