The Mentalist soon became one of the highest rated shows, breaking viewing records right out of the gate. Over the years, Simon Baker has received numerous best lead actor nominations by the Screen Actors Guild, the Emmy Awards and the Golden Globes. While he has found international success and recognition for his on-camera roles, Simon Baker is now focused on the next chapter of his career working behind the camera. 2018 has seen him emerge as a distinctive and notable director with his critically acclaimed directorial debut Breath. Baker partnered with producer Mark Johnson and optioned author Tim Winton’s best-selling novel. An avid surfer, Baker’s passion for the coming-of-age story went beyond the pages of the book and ignited a long held ambition and desire to direct film. The film received outstanding reviews on its release in Australia in 2018 and has been described as “unpretentiously profound, with a very Australian (and very cinematic) regard for allowing natural beauty to speak for itself…a surfer film with soul and gravitas”. The film has won and been nominated for several awards, with Baker winning Best Director at Australia’s DGA awards and receiving 9 AACTA (Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts) nominations. Authored with a unique and distinctive vision, Baker himself received 4 nominations; Best Film, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay and winning for Best Supporting Actor. It is also the first time in AACTA history that an individual has won in a performance category for a film in which they directed.
Simon Baker was introduced as a Longines Ambassador of Elegance at the 2012 Prix de Diane Longines in Chantilly (France) and has since then, attended number of events, embodied numerous collections and has perfectly conveyed the brand’s values.
